What is it that every single successful business does and yet so may small businesses still fail to do?
Providing quality products and services?
Paying their taxes on time?
Hiring great staff?
There are all sorts of things that you should be doing in your business but for now, we're talking about building a profitable database of prospects and customers.
Whether it is mailing addresses, email addresses or phone numbers, without compiling a list that you can send out future offers, promotions or event notifications to, you're leaving a lot of money on the table…and none of us want that now do we?
So of the 3 different types of databases I mentioned above, which ones should you use?
How about all 3?
The more information you can get the better. Using a variety of channels to touch base and gently remind your customers that you exist will help maximize the effectiveness of your marketing message.
Some people will respond better to a piece of direct mail vs an email or vice versa. In my opinion, an automated text message will trump them all.
Whichever way you decide to build your database with, here are a few key things to keep in mind when following up with your list.
-Keep your marketing message consistent
-Don't send out messages every two weeks for a period of 3 months and then cut back to once every other month. You want to train your list so they expect to hear from you on a certain frequency
-Tell them when they sign up exactly what they are going to get for being on your list
-Never, ever, ever spam people. Use permission based marketing only
